Southport Run 23rd September
A great day out, for once the weather was kind to us and we managed to have a dry ride out. It was nice to see Robbo out on his bike again, he said getting married would not interfere with the fun part. Four of us turned up at WOODS for the ride to Broxton Cafe, a Sprint ST 955i, Daytona 650 and a BMW!!!!! We are still trying to convince Mike Thompson that Triumphs are the better bike. An excellent ride down the Mold road followed, you know, when everything flows, nobody gets in your way.
Arriving at Broxton the usual crowd where tucking into bacon butties and tea. As they say ‘What WOODS do best’. Nice to see 9 more people there for the ride, a good mix of bikes, Rocket 111, 2x t-Birds, Trophy, Tiger 1050, Sprint RS and a YAM!! Well you can’t win them all.
I was trying out my new Tom-Tom for this event but was playing safe and had a route card as well as Pat for directions. Already it had switched itself off (the Tom-Tom not Pat!), so it looked like it was going to be an interesting route. Possibly a trip around some back streets. Once they were all fed we set of up the A49 and over the Runcorn bridge, well Tom-tom didn’t want to go that way, so between the sat-nav, Pat, the route card and the traffic signs I still managed to take a wrong turn. This was where local knowledge helped with Stu Clubbe taking the correct route with a few other locals whilst the Welsh bunch obediently followed there leader. Fools, little did they know, they where on a tour of Runcorn estates. Finally having worked out the correct route Tom-Tom got ignored and we finally made our way onto the A570 and headed into Southport and the Prom.
A large number of bikes were already parked up on the prom (especially the Red Rocket) and with the Air Show on it turned out to be an entertaining weekend - especially when Tommy wanted to volunteer for the wing walking act.
Finally time to head home via Formby and Liverpool before having a final coffee and departing our own ways. What made this a great day out was not only the company but the weather stayed dry. This must have been the first ride out this year that was dry all day. Catch you all soon.
