Over the weekend of 10/11/12th of July, 21 members of various R.A.T. packs congregated in Fort William to ride the roads from Fort William to Caernarfon via the 3 peaks of Great Britain, waving as we went passed.

We started off on Saturday morning, some before breakfast, others after.

We travelled down some of the best roads in Scotland, including the A9, A822, A823, B7016 and the fantastic A701 before entering England south of Gretna Green via the B7076. Now if you want a good road to ride, you could do no worse than the B7076. I’ll never use the M74 again.

We then travelled through the lakes before a quick run on the M6 before hitting the A49 and then linking in with the A5 just west of Wrexham. Up to this stage the weather had been excellent, but entering Wales it decided to get a bit wet and the run through to Snowdonia turned out to be slightly damp!! Is that an understatement?

Finally we arrived at Snowdon 9.5hrs later before travelling on to our overnight stay at Caernarfon.

Most of us arrived within 10hrs but two riders, Chris Tudball (Tiger 1050) and Rob Delingham (Sprint 1050) arrived within 9 hrs.

Our commiserations go to Phil and Denise Wilkinson who made it to Fort William on a Tiger 1050 but picked up a puncture in the sidewall then had to wait till 2pm next day before it got fixed. This put them out of taking part in the event but, maybe next time.

Remember you are never too old to take part in an event like this, just ask Graham Smallwood. 74 years old and rode the event on his Bonneville.

A great event first thought out over a pint at a R.A.T. raid. My thanks go to Anthony Lovell (WOODS RAT), Alan Burns (Laguna RAT) and Andrew Woods and his partner Aillie Hardman whose help was invaluable in running this event.

Well you now they say never discuss runs over a beer, what was that Alan, furthest West to East via the middle, mmmm, not a bad idea!!!

Roll on 2010.
