Isle of Mon Run 21st October 2007
Well what a cracking weekend, the first time we have not got wet on a Rideout. Well the sun certainly shone on the righteous for the last official run of the year around the Isle of Môn. 27 bikes of various types, from Rockets to Daytona’s, plus the ODD foreign one or two, turned up at WOODS for the final run of the year. It was nice to see some new faces on the event so we hope you enjoyed the ride out.
It started well with the ‘gang’ from Cheshire feeding themselves at Threeways cafe before joining us for the event, nice to see Dave Taylor being the optimist in his ENGLAND rugby shirt. The route took us down the A55 and onto the A470 travelling through Llanwrst, Betws y Coed and the
Ogwen Valley before rejoining the A55 to Menai Bridge and a coffee stop at The Antelope pub. With so many bikes i didn’t expect us to arrive all at once but we only mislaid 6 who decided to travel through Bangor. Apparently John Mawrs Thruxton was leaking a drop of liquid at WOODS but this turned out just to be petrol from the overflow. Andrew Wood, who was back marker, commented on the beautiful sight of a large number of bikes snaking down the road through Ogwen Valley on the way to Bethesda. A large number of people were parked up in the Valley going climbing and they were astounded by the number of Triumphs going passed.
After a short coffee break we made our way over the Bridge, being led by Dave Mackenzie, to Beaumaris where we promptly lost everybody but 4 bikes. The turning left was not well signposted so Dave shot off to find the missing bunch eventually finding them sedately making there way back from Puffin Island. You would have thought that grass in the middle of the road would have been a hint. Sorry no, the first time we did this event Andrew led us down the same road.
The guy & gals on the Rockets were having great fun. Finally the ‘Sheep’ were gathered in and made there way to Rhosneigr and lunch, arriving from three different directions. Honest it was not my Tom Tom this time.
Lunch took a little longer than predicted so a decision to run straight to Llanfair PG down the old A5 (great road). One day we will find somewhere they can handle 35 people. We had to leave a group of 5 at the lunch stop because the frying pan was not large enough but we hope they got home OK.
It turned out to be a great day, a little chilly in places, but meeting up with some great company. It was good to talk to old friends as well as new acquaintances. It is amazing how bikes bring people together. I am looking forward to seeing you all again next year for some more great rides out, there are some already planned and we will let you know in January.
