Welsh Dragon Raid 18-20th April 2008.

Well what a cracking weekend. The Welsh Dragon Raid was a resounding success. I would like to thank all the packs and individuals who arrived for a chilly and wet weekend at Ruthin Castle. A total of 124 people with 90 bikes booked for the weekend.

Friday saw everybody arriving and taking over the beautiful market town of Ruthin in North Wales. After booking in and settling down the evening started with an excellent dinner followed by a simple quiz night in the bar. Andrew Wood with his partner Aillie Hardman played host to this evening and provided an entertaining quiz with some excellent prizes.

Saturday saw the main part of the event start on a cold but clear day, which provided some excellent conditions for a ride around the beautiful scenic area of N/Wales, as long as you stopped now and again to warm up.

The route took the riders through the some of the best scenery and on some of the best roads of North Wales and Snowdonia, through stunning Ogwen valley passed the snow capped mountains and onto the beautiful island which is known locally as Ynys Mon, Anglesey to you and me, before arriving in the seaside town of Beaumaris for lunch. The view from the location of the car park looked out over the Menai Straits towards Snowdonia.

The route then took us around the perimeter of the island, taking in the ‘little bays’ and ‘inlets’ that the island is famed for before finally arriving at the town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch for a quick cuppa.

With a name like that no wonder they have a big car park.

Then onwards, back onto the main land where you could either return back the way you came or take a right, and go around the rear of the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon, before rejoing the route back to Ruthin and the bar.

Saturday night saw 124 happy RAT members dressing up for the evening’s entertainment, the medieval banquet. The staff of Ruthin Castle put on an excellent evenings entertainment with mead, beer and wine flowing freely a lively night was had by all.

Sunday saw heavy rain and low cloud so the ride over Denbigh Moor was cancelled and RAT members started to depart and make there way home after an excellent weekend.
